Il responso del mio colloquio è arrivato, e purtroppo non ho avuto il lavoro.

My interview’s response arrived and, unluckily I didn’t get the job.

Ero molto soddisfatta del colloquio, e lo sono ancora. Ci sono rimasta un pò male, anche se già sapevo che la concorrenza è spietata e che il “capo” avrà avuto le sue buone ragioni per scegliere qualcun altro. Mi ha detto che terrà i miei dati in archivio, e se avranno bisogno di qualche altra persona vorrà contattarmi. …magra consolazione..

I was really happy for how my interview went, and still I am. I felt a bit sorry about that, even if I already knew that the competition is really strong and the “boss” would have had his good reasons to choose another person. He told me he wants to keep my details on file, so if they will need anyone else, he’s going to call me. …cold comfort…

Per “sbollire” la delusione mi sono precipitata in cucina e ho preparato una torta ai mirtilli rossi. Preparare dolci mi rilassa! E poi dovevo festeggiare la mia nuova ritrovata energia, e voglia di “combattere”, per riuscire ad arrivare!

To “blow off” the disappointment I rushed into the kitchen and I baked a red cranberries cake. Baking relax myself! And I had to celebrate my new recovered energy, and will to “fight”, to be able to make it!

Quel pomeriggio ho spedito una ventina di Curricula, a ditte e studi che non avevano offerte di lavoro, ma per cui mi sarebbe piaciuto lavorare. …perchè lo so che c’è un posto per me, da qualche parte, devo solo scovarlo!

That afternoon I sent about twenty Curricula to practices and offices that didn’t have job adverts, but where I would have liked working. …I know there is a position for me, somewhere, I only have to find it!

La voglia di cucinare non mi è passata subito, così ho anche preparato l’impasto per il pane seguendo questa ricetta. Il giorno dopo l’ho cotto…ed è venuto buonissimo!!

The will of baking didn’t go away, so I followed this recipe and prepared the dough for the bread too. The day after I cooked it…and it was so good!!

Ho mangiato il pane con olio d’oliva e sale, come si fa in Toscana…era davvero tanto buono!! Ne ho mangiate tre fette!!

I ate the bread with olive oil and salt, as we do in Tuscany…it was really good!! I ate three slices!!

John ha comprato 2,100 kg di fragole al mercato, per sole 3 sterline!! Erano un pò schiacciate, per questo le vendevano a quel prezzo…ma erano perfette per fare una marmellata!!

John bought 2,100 kg of strawberries at the market, for only 2 pounds!! They were a bit squashed, that is the reason why the price was so cheap…but they were perfect for making a jam!!

Il profumo mentre cuocevano era buonissimo!!

The smell while they were cooking was fabulous!!

…il vaso grande è da un litro!

…the big jar is 1 liter!

Ho messo da parte un pò di fragole e le ho usate per preparare dei muffins!!

I put aside some of the strawberries and used them to bake some muffins!!

Dopo tutto questo mangiare, mi sento meglio e il mio umore è migliorato!! Sto già iniziando a ricevere risposte ai Curricula che ho spedito…e ho già studiato vari “piani di battaglia”! Io non mi arrendo!

After all this eating, I feel better and my mood is improved!! I am starting receiving answers to the Curricula I sent…and I already studied various “strategic plans”! I don’t give up!

WALKING WITH FRIENDS

Un giorno John è tornato a casa dal lavoro tutto felice perchè, dopo un colloquio telefonico e un colloquio faccia-faccia di circa 5 ore, gli avevano telefonato per dirgli che aveva ottenuto il posto di lavoro! (nella foto qua sopra rido perchè, come spesso faccio, avevo rovesciato il mio thè per terra! …non ho ancora la “grazia” inglese nel muovermi con una tazza di thè in mano!).

One day John came back home from work really happy because, after a telephone interview and a face-to-face interview lasted about 5 hours, they rang him to tell him that he got the job! (in the picture here above I’m reading because, as I often do, I spilt my tea on the floor! …I still don’t have the English “elegance” in walking with a cup of tea in my hand!).

Abbiamo preso le sedie e ci siamo seduti di fronte casa. Proprio come fanno i vecchi Italiani, quando portano le loro sedie fuori casa, per prendere fresco durante l’estate e chiacchierare con i vicini di casa. Noi però, al contrario, volevamo a prendere “il caldo”, come fanno le lucertole!

We took our chairs out and sat in front of home, like the old Italian people do, when during summer time they took their chairs out of the house to get some fresh air and chatting with the neighbours. On the contrary, we wanted to catch some “warm air”, like lizards do!

John inizierà il suo nuovo lavoro il 10 di Giugno. Un lavoro perfetto per lui, che potrà ricominciare a lavorare con le sue adorate immagini satellitari…..io invece sto ancora aspettando un responso.

John will start his new job on the 10th of June. A perfect job for him, who will be able to work again with his loved satellite’s pictures…I’m still waiting for a response, instead.

Qualche fine settimana fa siamo andati con i nostri amici-vicini di casa a fare una passeggiata con picnic.

Some week-end ago we went for a walk with picnic with hour friends-neighbours.

Non erano mai stati al mulino di Houghton, così li abbiamo “portati” a vederlo!! Era un giorno caldo e pieno di sole!

They’d never been before to Houghton mill, so we “took” them to see it!! It was a warm and sunny day!

La riva del fiume si era trasformata, a nostra sorpresa, in una “spiaggia”! C’erano tantissime persone, a nuotare, in barca o canotto, a prendere il sole e fare un picnic!

The river shore got turn, for our surprise, in a “beach”! There were lots of people, swimming, in their boats or inflatables, getting some sunshine and having a picnic!

Qua intorno ci sono tanti “Great Crested Grebe”, chiamati Svassi in Italiano, che mi piacciono tanto!!

Here around there are lots of “Great Crested Grebe“, that I really like a lot!!

Abbiamo mangiato uno dei gelati classici inglesi, che si compra dai tanti furgoncini che si possono trovare nei vari paesini o lungo le strade. Questo è il famoso “99″. Nessuno sa come mai abbia questo nome. A me piace parecchio, e quando vedo i camioncini mi viene sempre l’acquolina in bocca!!

We ate one of the traditional English ice-cream, that you can buy from a ice-cream van that are everywhere in towns or along roads. This is the famous “99″. None knows why it’s got that name. I really like it, and every time I saw an ice-cream van, I start mouth-watering!!

E dopo aver camminato un bel pò di ore, siamo tornati al nostro paese, St. Ives. E’ bello, vero?

And after walking for enough hours, we came back to our town of St. Ives. It’s nice, isn’t it?

ADVENTURE N°2

Questa è un’altra bella camminata che ho fatto in solitudine. Ho camminato circa 3 ore. Sono andata verso il mulino di Houghton e poi mi sono fermata su un ponte a guardare un signore che stava aprendo le chiuse del canale per passare con la sua barchetta.

This is another nice walk I made on my own. I walked about 3 hourse. I went toward Houghton Mill and I stopped on a bridge looking at a man who was opening the canal’s locks to pass through with his small boat.

Non avevo mai visto la chiusa in funzione, quindi ero molto interessata. Sul ponte, a guardare, c’eravamo io e tre bambini. Mi sono messa a conversare con il padrone della barca, che saputo che ero italiana si è subito messo a spiegarmi come funzionava…e poi mi ha detto: “Vieni qua, che la faccio aprire a te!”. Lì per lì ho rifiutato, perchè pensavo che me lo avesse detto per cortesia, visto invece che poi insisteva, mi sono “lanciata” nella mia nuova avventura!

I’ve never seen the lock working before and I was really interested. On the bridge, looking at it, there were me and tree children. I started talking with the owner of the boat and when he knew I was from Italy, he explained me all the technical operations…and then he said: “Come on here, I’ll let you open it!”. On the spur of the moment I refused, I thought he said that to please me, but because he insisted I “launched” myself in my new adventure!

E allora ho aspettato che l’acqua finisse di defluire e poi ho spinto una parte della chiusa, mentre il signore apriva l’altra. Ho dovuto poi usare una “chiave” per bloccare in posizione la chiusa in modo che poi non si muovesse. L’ho poi passata al mio “maestro”, che ha bloccato l’altro lato. Ha commentato dicendo: “E’ la prima volta che vedo una donna italiana con i capelli rossi, è inusuale!”. Mi ha salutata augurandomi di godermi l’Inghilterra.

So I waited for the water to finish draining and then I pushed one side of the lock, while the man opened the other side. I then had to use a “spanner” to block the lock into its position, so that it wouldn’t have moved. I passed it to my “teacher”, who blocked the other side. He commented saying: “This is the first time I met an Italian woman with red hair, it’s quite unusual!”. He greeted wishing me to enjoy England.

Ho continuato il mio cammino saltellando un pò, perchè ero tanto contenta di aver aperto la chiusa!! Mi sono poi fermata a mangiare il mio pranzo a sacco. Mi ero anche portata una delle bottigliette giapponesi a forma di animaletti che ho comprato online anni fa! ..perfetta per festeggiare la bella giornata.

I continued my walk jumping a bit, because I was really happy that I opened the lock!! I then stopped to eat my packed lunch. I even take with me one of the little japanese sauce containers that I bought online years ago! …perfect to celebrate the nice day.

Avevo pensato di camminare fino a Godmanchester, ma il sole picchiava veramente forte e sentivo la mia faccia iniziare a protestare. Così ho pensato che forse era meglio tornare indietro, verso casa, per non rischiare di bruciarmi.

I wanted to walk to Godmanchester, but the sun was so strong I was starting feeling my face complaining. So I thought it was better walking back home, not to burn myself.

Sulla strada di casa ho visto gente che cambiava un pò della paglia su uno dei cottages…bel lavoro…soprattutto quando creano quelle buffe sculture! ..forse potrei fare un corso per imparare a fare quelle sculture!

On my way back home I saw people changing a part of a thatched roof on a cottage…that’s a nice job…especially when they create those funny sculptures! …maybe I could follow a course to learn how to make those sculptures!

Tornata a casa la mia faccia bruciava tanto, e io non avevo la crema dopo sole. Avevo però dello yogurt in casa e mi sono spalmata quello. Avevo letto su internet che avrebbe aiutato.

Back home my face was hurting a lot, and I didn’t have an after sun cream. I had some yogurt in my fridge, though. So I rubbed it on my face. I read on internet it would have helped.

In realtà lo yogurt non mi ha fatto molto, a parte il fatto che era piacevole perchè era fresco…e sono dovuta andare in farmacia a comprarmi la crema dopo sole!! Così adesso sarò pronta per la prossima volta e il sole potrà picchiare quanto vuole!

In reality the yogurt didn’t do a lot, a part that it was pleasant because it was fresh…and I had to go at the pharmacy to buy an after sun cream!! I’ll be ready for the next time and the sun could be as strong as it likes!

ADVENTURE n°1

Ho preparato il mio “pranzo al sacco” e sono partita a piedi per una camminata di circa 3 ore.

I prepared my “packed lunch” and left for walk that lasted about 3 hours.

Non ero mai andata al villaggio di Holywell a piedi, perchè durante l’inverno il sentiero era inondato. Ma adesso che la stagione è buona anche questi sentieri sono utilizzabili!!

I never went to Holywell village before by foot, because during the winter the path was flooded. But now that the weather is good I can use these footpaths, too!!

Sono partita con la sciarpa leggera che mi ha regalato Mirella e la giacca a vento, perchè era nebbioso e coperto dalle nuvole. Strada facendo però il tempo è migliorato e piano piano mi sono dovuta alleggerire, ritrovandomi in maglietta!

I left with a light scarf, Mirella’s present, and my parka, because it was a bit foggy and cloudy. Along the way though, the weather improved and step by step I had to take my layers off, ending in my T-shirt!

Arrivando al villaggio ho trovato un altro percorso che va nella direzione di casa, e ho deciso di prendere quello per tornare indietro. Vi ho detto molte volte che l’Inghilterra è piena di sentieri da percorrere a piedi, questa cosa mi piace molto, perchè da casa ho una miriade di alternative quando voglio andare a fare una camminata!

Arriving at the village I found another footpath that goes in my home’s direction, and I decided to use it on my way back. I told you more times that England is full of footpaths, and I really like it, because departing from home I’ve got plenty of options when I want to go for a walk!

Il villaggio di Holywell è pieno di cottages dal tetto di paglia, caratteristici di questa zona.

Holywell village is full of thatched cottages, typical of this area.

Mi sono fermata su una panchina di fronte a un bellissimo campo, a mangiare il mio pranzo a sacco. Me lo sono proprio goduto, nel sole! …e ho finito proprio tutto ;P

I sat on a bench in front of a really beautiful field, to eat my packed lunch. I really enjoyed it, in the sun! …and I finished it all ;P

Dato che avevo ancora tempo mi sono poi diretta verso il villaggio di Needingworth, che è là vicino.

I still had time, so I went toward the nearer village of Needingworth.

I bambini qua vanno a scuola in bicicletta o con il monopattino. Questi che vedete qua sotto stavano aspettando i proprietari nel parcheggio di una scuola!

Here children go to school by bicycle or by push scooter. The ones you can see here below were waiting for their owners in a school’s parking site!

Mi sono poi diretta verso casa. Ho preso il sentiero che avevo trovato all’andata e arrivata ad un bivio, ho deciso di percorrere la strada nuova, che non avevo ancora fatto e che fiancheggia un lago sul lato sinistro (avevo fatto il lato destro all’andata).

I then went back home. I took the footpath that I found at the outward voyage and at a crossroad, I decided to choose the new way, the one that I didn’t walk through yet and that lines a lake on its left side (I did the right side on my earlier round).

…dopo circa 20 minuti però ho trovato la strada sbarrata!! Questo cancello non dovrebbe essere là, perchè è un “public footpath”, la strada dovrebbe essere aperta a tutti. …ho guardato qua e là, ma non ho trovato altri modi per superare l’ostacolo. L’unica soluzione possibile era quella di tornare al bivio e scegliere l’altro sentiero, sul lato destro del lago, quello che già conoscevo.

…after about 20 minutes I found my way barred, though!! This gate shouldn’t be there, because this is a “public footpath”, the way should be opened for everyone. …I looked here and there but I couldn’t find other ways to move around the barrier. The only solution was going back at the crossroad and choose the other path, on the right side of the lake, the one I already knew.

Quasi alla fine della mia strada “a ritroso” ho trovato due cigni che camminavano allegramente sul sentiero!! Che carini!! ..ehi…spostatevi…

Near the end of my “way back” I found two swans walking happily along the path!! How cute!! ..ehi..move on..

I cigni si sono girati, erano alti quasi quanto me. Mi hanno guardata con aria minacciosa e mi hanno soffiato. Sono indietreggiata e ho provato ad aspettare due minuti, per dar loro il tempo di finire l’erbetta che stavano mangiando.

The swans turned toward me, they were almost high as me. They looked at me in a threatening way and blew at me. I moved back and tried to wait about two minutes, to give them the time to finish the grass they were eating.

Ho provato di nuovo a passare altre, tre, quattro volte…ma niente da fare! Non avevo proprio voglia di farmi beccare da due cigni. Mi sono ricordata che avevo visto una stradina parallela, che passava proprio vicino al lago! E vai, gambe in spalla verso la mia nuova direzione!

I tried again to pass three, four times…but nothing to do! I didn’t want to be chewed out from two swans. I remembered I saw a little parallel path, really close to the lake! Let’s go, hurrying up towards my new direction!

…beh, ho dovuto passare in mezzo a dei cespugli per non passare dentro al fango, ma sono sopravvissuta!

…well, I had to walk through some bushes not to walk in the middle of the mud, but I survived!

E poi, dietro i cespugli ho visto i due cigni, che mi guardavano dall’altro percorso e si facevano beffe di me….la prossima volta vi faccio vedere io!!

And then, behind the bushes I saw the two swans, that were looking at me from the other path and were mocking at me…the next time I’ll show you!!

Alla fine ho ritrovato la mia strada e sono tornata a casa…tanto contenta!! Mi piacciono queste avventure, mi piace camminare nella natura! Ho persino visto due “Picchi Verdi” a due metri da me. Mi sono volati accanto più volte, emettendo quel loro strano grido!! Sono bellissimi, sembrano dipinti!! Purtroppo sono troppo veloci per la mia macchina fotografica, ma so dove devo andare a ricercarli la prossima volta che voglio vederli.

At the end I found my way and came back home…really happy!! I like these kind of adventures, I like walking in the nature! I even saw two “Green Woodpeckers” two meters away from me. They flew next to me more times, emitting their weird scream!! They’re beautiful, they seem painted!! Unluckily they’re too fast for my camera, but I know where I have to go and look for them the next time I want to see them.

LIFE AND DEATH

Qualche giorno fa abbiamo trovato una rondine per terra, nel vialetto di casa. Era completamente ricoperta di colla. Sui tetti di fronte hanno messo i dissuasori anti-piccioni. Probabilmente questa rondine aveva il nido nelle vicinanze ed è rimasta intrappolata. L’abbiamo presa e abbiamo provato a lavarla…ma è morta prima che riuscissimo a terminare il lavoro. E’ stato triste, mi è dispiaciuto tanto per questa rondine, che è arrivata qua da circa un mese aver fatto un viaggio chissà quanto lungo.

Some days ago we found a swallow on the floor, on the path in front of our house. It was fully covered in glue. On the roofs in front of us, they put some  pigeon spikes. Probably the nest of that swallow was in the surroundings and it get trapped. We grabbed it and tried to wash it…but it was dead before we could finish our job. It was sad, I was really sorry for the swallow, that arrived it just a about a month ago after a long trip, none knows how long it was.

Ho fatto una passeggiata qua intorno e ho visto un “Capriolo d’acqua” . Appena mi ha vista è fuggito in mezzo agli arbusti e non ho potuto fotografarlo. Mi piace molto il fatto che qua intorno ci siano tutti questi animali che non ho mai visto prima. Ogni volta che vado a camminare sto all’erta e mi giro ad ogni piccolo rumore che sento!!

I went for a walk here around and I saw a “Water Deer“. As soon as it saw me, it ran into the bushes and I wasn’t able to take a picture. I really like here around, because there are so many animals that I haven’t seen before. Every time I go for a walk I am on the alert and I turn over every little noise I hear!!

I conigli sono ovunque, e in questi giorni ne ho visti molti piccoli piccoli! Fuggono da tutte le parti e vanno a nascondersi dentro alle loro tane sotterranee. Questi due coniglietti che vedete nelle foto erano particolarmente curiosi e sono rimasti davanti all’ingresso della loro tana a guardarmi per un bel pò!

There are rabbits everywhere, and in these days I’ve seen many really small! They ran everywhere and go to hide in their underground nests. These two baby rabbits you can see in the pictures were particularly curious that stand in front of their nest’s entrance looking at me for a while!

SENTIERI – PATHS

Il colloquio è andato molto bene! Abbiamo chiacchierato per 1 ora e mezza! Sono contenta e molto soddisfatta e, a parte due secondi di ingarbugliamento con la lingua, poi è filato tutto liscio. Ho persino mobilitato tutto l’ufficio quando ho chiesto loro se potevano mostrarmi quali programmi usavano per disegnare, e mi hanno messo a disposizione un maxi schermo quando ho voluto mostrar loro anche il mio Portfolio tecnico sul computer, oltre a quello architettonico che invece ho stampato!

The interview went pretty well! We talked for 1 and a half hour! I’m really happy and satisfied and, a part for two seconds of “tangling” with the language, it went all smoothly. I even put all the office in agitation when I asked them which software they’re using to draw, and they offered me a maxi monitor when I wanted to show them even my Technical Portfolio on their computer, in addition to my printed architectural one!

Adesso devo aspettare circa due settimane prima di avere una risposta. Mi hanno detto che hanno altri due colloqui e poi prenderanno una decisione. Avere un colloquio è già stata una soddisfazione, perchè mi hanno detto che hanno ricevuto centinaia di Curricula da ogni parte del mondo, e io sono stata una dei pochi selezionati.

I’ve to wait about two weeks for a response. They told me they’re going to have other two interview and then they’ll make a decision. It has already been satisfying having an interview, because they told me that they had received hundreds of Curricula from all over the world, and I was one of the fewer selected.

Sarebbero contenti di avere a lavorare con loro un architetto italiano, perchè potrei offrire nuove idee per i loro disegni. Il capo si è anche scusato perchè loro non sono un ufficio di architetti, ma una ditta dove progettano, disegnano e realizzano giardini di inverno!! …non si preoccupi capo, il mio sogno è entrare nel campo del “Garden Design” e quello che voi fate è molto vicino a quello che desidero…per di più, il vostro ufficio si trova dentro ad un Garden Centre!

They’ll be happy to have an Italian architect working with them, because I can offer new ideas for their designs. The boss also excuse himself because they’re not an architectural practice, but an office where they design, draw and realise Orangeries and Conservatories!! …don’t worry boss, my dream is to work in the “Garden Design” and what you’re doing here is really close to what I wish… furthermore your office is located inside a Garden Centre!

Si è anche scusato perchè lo stipendio sarebbe un pò basso per la “mia esperienza”. …non si preoccupi capo, lo stipendio che mi stai offrendo è molto più alto di quello che ricevevo in Italia (ma questo l’ho soltanto pensato!!). …va bene, va bene così, sono Italiana e so che devo imparare tanto, ma questo non mi spaventa. Sarei anzi, molto ben contenta di imparare nuovi programmi, nuovi modi di progettare e disegnare!

He even excused himself because the salary they offer will be a bit low for “my experience”. …don’t worry boss, the salary you are offering me it is way higher that the one I was getting in Italy (but I only thought this sentence!). …it’s ok, it will be great like that, I’m Italian and I know I’ll have to learn a lot, but I’m not afraid of that. I will be really happy to learn new softwares, new ways of design and draw!

Dopo un saluto molto cordiale da parte di capo e, si spera, futuri colleghi me ne sono andata proclamando: “Non vedo l’ora di ricevere una risposta!”..e camminando con le “scarpe buone” mi sono diretta alla fermata dell’autobus fiera e contenta!

After a really friendly greeting from the boss and, I hope, my future colleagues I went away declaring: “I look forward for your reply!”…and walking with my “good shoes” I walked to the bus stop proud and happy!

Finito il colloquio l’adrenalina era ancora alta, e avrei chiacchierato anche con le pietre! Ho scambiato allora due parole con una signora anziana che come me, aspettava l’autobus insieme alla sua cagnolina Rosie. Mi ha chiesto di dove ero, mi ha detto che aveva vissuto a Napoli e in America e poi si è confusa mille volte a causa della vecchiaia e mi ha persino dato della pazza per voler vivere in Inghilterra. Mi ha infine quasi ordinato di sdraiarmi in mezzo alla strada per fermare il bus che stava arrivando!

After the interview the adrenalin was still high, and I would have spoken with the stones, too! So I had a little talk with an old lady who like me, was waiting for the bus with her dog Rosie. She asked me where I am from, she told me that she lived in Naples and America and then she got confused thousands of times because of her age and she even told me I’m crazy because I want to live in England. Then she kind of ordered me to lie down in the middle of the road to stop the bus that was coming!

Il giorno dopo era tutto più tranquillo e sono andata a fare una passeggiata. Era caldo e non c’era bisogno di giacche o felpe. Ho iniziato dal sentiero nel prato accanto al ponte di St. Ives diretta verso mete ignote.

The day after everything was quieter and I went out for a walk. It was warm and I didn’t need any jumper or jacket. I started from the footpath on the field next to St. Ives’ Bridge aiming towards unknown destinations.

Ho camminato per due ore e sentiero dopo sentiero sono finita nei miei villaggi preferiti.

I walked for two hours and footpath after footpath I ended in my favourite villages.

Ci sono sempre mille angoli nuovi da scoprire, nuovi uccellini di cui ancora non conosco il nome…ma poi lo imparo in inglese e in italiano non li so chiamare!

There always are thousands of new corners to discover, new birds that I don’t know the names yet…but I always learn them in English and after I don’t know how to call them in Italian!

Giardini nascosti, ma se paghi un biglietto puoi entrare…..ehi, forse se mi compro una casa così poi lo faccio pagare anche io il biglietto per venirmi a visitare!

Hidden gardens, but if you pay a ticket you can go inside…ehi, maybe if I’ll buy a house like that one I could make people pay a ticket to come and visit me, too!

Tutto scorre intorno al fiume, come la vita di un tempo, e le mie gambe non si vogliono fermare.

Everything flows along the river, like the life in passed times, and my legs didn’t want to stop.

I sentieri in Inghilterra ti catturano e non ti fanno fermare. Ti attirano e rigirano, ti nascondono e mostrano posti segreti e pieni di fascino. Ti inseriscono in un’atmosfera magica che non vorresti mai lasciare.

Footpaths in England catch you and don’t want you to stop. They attract and turn you around, they hide and show you secret and full of charm places. They enter you in a magical atmosphere that you’ll never want to leave.

Quando cammino da sola godo più il percorso, perchè non devo chiacchierare. La mia lingua sta zitta per un pò (qualcuno direbbe FINALMENTE!), il mio cervello si rilassa e le mie orecchie sono all’erta, in attesa di canti di uccelli che un giorno vorrei saper riconoscere.

When I walk on my own I enjoy the trip more, because I don’t have to talk. My tongue is silent for a while (and someone will say AT LAST!), my brain relax itself and my ears are on the alert, waiting for birds’ songs that one day I would like to recognise.

Gira e rigira torno al mulino, dove meno una settimana prima ero con Matteo. Questa volta la ruota non gira, ci sono solo un paio di cigni che rincorrono una papera, forse stanno preparando il loro nido.

At the end of the day I arrived at the water mill, where less than one week ago I was with Matteo.  This time the mill is not turning, there are only a pair of swans chasing a duck, maybe they’re preparing their nest.

Il sentiero continua a portarmi avanti, e torno di nuovo sulla collina che un paio di settimane fa ho scoperto insieme a John, proprio a pochi minuti da casa. Un giorno, mucche permettendo, vorrei venire qua per un picnic.

The footpath keeps on carrying me ahead, and I go back on the hill I discoverd with John a couple of weeks ago, a few minutes from home. One day, cows allowing, I’d like to come here for a picnic.

Torno a casa ma non sono ancora stanca. Entro in cucina, cerco nei cassetti e sportelli e decido di fare dei muffins, per la colazione

I go back home but I’m not tired yet. I go in the kitchen, looke in the drawers and flaps and decide to bake some muffins, for my breakfast.

I miei visitatori sono venuti e già ripartiti. E’ tutto così veloce quando stai bene. E’ stato bello e anche il tempo era dalla nostra parte.

My visitors came and they’re already gone. Everything goes so quickly when you feel good. It was nice and the weather was good.

Abbiamo visitato monumenti vari e musei.

Abbiamo visto animali curiosi e fiori sbocciati.

Siamo stati dentro ad un mulino ad acqua e nei paesi “dei sogni” qua vicino a casa.

We went to visit a water mill and the “dream” villages near home.

Abbiamo mangiato e digerito. Siamo stati bene, insieme. Sono stata contenta di avere parte della mia famiglia qua, a vedere queste terre e il posto dove lavoro e vivo. E’ stato bello poter mostrare loro il “mio mondo” di adesso. …ehi, aspetto altri visitatori, venite a trovarmi!! E voi, Andrea, Chiara e Matteo, tornate!!

We ate and digested. We were ok, together. I was really happy to have part of my family here, to see these countries and the place where I work and live. It was nice being able to show them “my present world”. …ehi, I’m waiting for other visitors, let’s come to visit me!! And you, Andrea, Chiara and Matteo, come back again!!

E domani avrò un’emozione! Ho un colloquio!! Per un posto di “Orangery Designer”, sarebbe un passo importante verso la direzione in cui mi piacerebbe andare. Sono già contenta di essere stata selezionata, sarei ancora più contenta di riuscire ad ottenere quello che è tanto che aspetto! Non voglio illudermi, perchè so che adesso la concorrenza è spietata e io sono pur sempre una straniera, che “porta via il lavoro agli indigeni”…ma prometto che mi impegnerò come ho sempre fatto e non vi deluderò!! ..per favore, tenete tutti le dita incrociate per me, io farò del mio meglio!!

And tomorrow I’m going to have an excitement! I’ve got an interview!! For a position as “Orangery Designer”, it will be an important step toward the direction I’d like to go. I’m already happy for been selected, I’ll be more happy if I could achieve what I’m waiting since a long time now! I don’t want to deceive myself, because I know the competition is fierce and I’m always a foreigner, who “takes the job away from the native” ….but I promise that I will make an effort, as I always have done, and I won’t disappoint you!! …please, keep all your fingers crossed for me, I’ll do my best!!

Ho adottato un nido di uccellini!!! Qua a St. Ives (Cambridgeshire) abbiamo una piccola isola, chiamata Holt Island. E’ una piccola riserva naturale e hanno offerto la possibilità di adottare un nido! ..io l’ho fatto!! E adesso non vedo l’ora che mi inviino le foto degli uccellini che nasceranno al suo interno! A quanto pare ho una famiglia di “Great Tits” di “Cinciallegre” nel mio nido!!

I adopted a nest!!! Here in St. Ives (Cambridgeshire) we have a little island, called Holt Island. It is a small natural reserve and they offered the possibility to adopt a box! ..I did it!! And now I’m looking forward to receive the pictures of the little birds that are going to born in it! It seems that I’ve got a family of “Great Tits” in my box!!

…la mia camera e tutta la casa è pronta, pulita e profumata! (non che solitamente sia sporca e puzzolente, eh!)

My first “visitors” from Italy!

Sono sicura che saranno 5 bellissimi giorni, che Cambridge li stupirà e speriamo che il tempo sia dalla nostra parte!! E comunque, dovranno provare anche loro un pò di “tempo inglese”, no?

I’m sure we’re going to have 5 fantastic days, Cambridge will surprise them and I hope the weather will be nice!! But then, they’ve got to try the “English weather” too, don’t they?

SCOIATTOLO NERO – BLACK SQUIRREL

Iniziamo con un pò di pasta ai quattro formaggi cotta in forno, che John ha preparato qualche giorno fa!! ..ne volete un pò?

Let’s start with some four cheeses oven baked pasta that John made a few days ago!! ..would you like some?

Ho avuto un incontro speciale, mentre camminavo sul sentiero dove ho incontrato le volpi!! Ho visto qualcosa saltare tra gli alberi e immaginavo che fosse uno scoiattolo. E avevo ragione. Era uno scoiattolo. Ma era un tipo diverso. Era più grande, e più scuro. Quando poi sono tornata a casa ho cercato su internet ed ho scoperto che era uno “Scoiattolo Nero“. (Riuscite a vederlo qua sopra mentre cercare di fuggire alla mia macchina fotografica?).

I had a special meeting, while I was walking along the path where I met the foxes!! I saw something jumping on the trees and I imagined there would have been a squirrel. I was right. It was a squirrel. But it was a different type. It was bigger, and darker. When I came back home I searched on internet and discoverd it was a “Black Squirrel“. (Are you able to see it here above, while it’s trying to escape far from my camera?).

Ho scoperto che gli “Scoiattoli Neri” sono stati avvistati in Inghilterra per la prima volta circa 100 anni fa e che sono originari del Nord America. Si stanno diffondendo molto, soprattutto nella zona dove vivo io. Scappati da qualche “collezionista”, si sono ambientati e iniziati ad espandere. C’è un progetto, chiamato “The Black Squirrel project” che grazie alle segnalazioni del pubblico, cerca di capire dove vivono e quanto si stanno diffondendo (anche io ho fatto la mia segnalazione!). A quanto pare sopportano meglio il clima inglese proprio grazie al colore più scuro del loro pelo, che facendogli assorbire più calore li mantiene più caldi.

I discovered that the “Black Squirrels” were first reported about 100 years ago and they originate from North America. They’re spreading, especially in this area where I live. They escaped from some “collectors”, they settled down and started to grow. There is a project, called “The Black Squirrel project” that thanks to the public’s sightings submissions, tries to understand where they live and how much they’re growing (I did my submission, too!). It seems that they are advantaged in keeping their bodies warm, because their black fur absorbs more heat from the sun.

Non aveva tanta voglia di farsi fotografare però…scappava saltando su tutti gli alberi intorno!

It didn’t want me to take a picture though…it jumped everywhere on the trees around!

Sono di nuovo andata a visitare gli agnellini e questa volta ne ho trovato uno che stava facendo un massaggio alla schiena della mamma!! Una scena buffissima!!

I went to visit the lambs again and this time I found one that was giving a massage at the back of its mum!! A really funny sight!!

Mi sono mangiata una pasta molto appetitosa di Gregg, e ho visto un bellissimo tramonto dal ponte di St. Ives!

I ate a really yummi bun at Gregg, and I saw a wonderfu sunset from St. Ives’s bridge!

E per finire in bellezza, ho trovato i frutti di Dragon Fruit al mercato di St. Ives!! Costano soltanto 1 pound l’uno!! La mia mamma ha una pianta di Dragon Fruit che io e John abbiamo piantato qualche anno fa…speriamo che prima o poi faccia qualche frutto!!

And to end with a bang, I found Dragon Fruit’s fruits at the market in St. Ives!! They cost only 1 pound each!! My mum has got a plant of Dragon Fruit at home that John and I grew some years ago…I hope soon or later it will grow some fruit!!

CAMBRIDGESHIRE – Hilton

In questo giorno di Pasqua ho fatto una camminata lunga circa 5 ore, verso il villaggio di Hilton. E piano piano mi sono infilata in un libro di fiabe, dove ho vissuto emozioni uniche.

In this Easter day I went for a almost 5 hours walk, towards the village of Hilton. And step by step I got into a fairy tale’s book, where I lived unique emotions.

Immaginavo gente intorno alla tavola, con piatti succulenti davanti e uova di cioccolata dalle varie dimensioni e colori.

I imagined people around tables, with juicy dishes in front of them and chocolate eggs with various shapes and colours.

Io invece ho visto tanti agnellini, che si sono salvati dalle tavole imbandite e che se ne stavano beati con le loro mamme in un bel prato verde.

I saw many lambs instead, that were able to save themselves from the set up tables and were happy with their mothers in a nice and green field.

Ho visto per la prima volta nella mia vita un “Muntjac“, arrivato dall’Asia, fuggito da parchi e adattato in terra inglese. Sembra sia abbastanza difficile vederlo, questo è stato il suo regalo di Pasqua per me. E’ rimasto là fermo per un pò, indeciso se scappare o no…poi si è girato e si è dato alla fuga.

I saw for the first time in my life a “Muntjac“, arrived from Asia, escaped from parks and adapted to live in English soil. It seems that’s difficult to meet it, this is his Easter present for me. He stayed there still for a bit, uncertain to run away or not…then he turned and took flight.

Ho camminato su terreni in mezzo a campi ancora freddi, addormentati, ma pronti a sbocciare non appena la primavera si sarà decisa ad arrivare.

I walked on soils in the middle of still cold and sleeping fields, but ready to blossom, as soon as Spring will decide to arrive.

Sono arrivata a Hilton che, come tanti altri villaggi qua intorno, mi ha stupita con le sue belle e interessanti costruzioni…e tutte le volte sogno di poter un giorno vivere anche io in una casa come queste.

I arrived at Hilton, that as many villages here around, astonished me with its beautiful and interesting buildings…and all the times I dream that maybe one day I’m going to live in a house like these ones.

Ho visto campi e strade pieni di Narcisi pronti a sbocciare…e alcuni più coraggiosi che hanno deciso di aprirsi prima degli altri.

I saw fields and roads filled with Daffodils ready to blossom…and some of the bravest decided to blossom before the others.

Ho visto un labirinto antico, fatto con l’erba per la prima volta nel 1660. Una spirale che gira tutta intorno e non si incontra mai. Un labirinto infinito che non smetteresti mai di girare.

I saw an ancient maze, a turf maze, made in 1660 for the first time. A spiral that goes all around without forks or crossing. An endless labyrinth that you’ll never stop to wander.

Ho visto una quercia così grande che John, preso dalla commozione è dovuto andare di corsa a misurare.

I saw a so huge Oak that John, feeling so emotionale, had to run and measure it.

Ho visto case da sogno e sentieri magici.

I saw dream houses and magical paths.

Ho visto papere che nuotavano in mezzo alle strade…e anche noi, per sentirci ancora più parte di quel racconto, abbiamo provato a fare lo stesso.

I saw ducks swimming in the middle of the roads…and we, to feel more part of that fairy tale, we tried to do the same.

Ho visto chiese fatte di pietre e conigli che scappavano impauriti.

I saw stone made churches and rabbits running away scared.

Con la stanchezza nelle gambe, e i visi arrossati dal sole e freddo io e John siamo tornati a casa, abbiamo mangiato cioccolata e biscotti regalati dai vicini di casa. Poi ho visto la mia famiglia su Skype, che apriva le uova di cioccolata con il martello. …è stata proprio una bella giornata magica di Pasqua!

With our legs really tired, and our faces red for the sun and cold, John and I came back home, and we ate chocolate and biscuits that our neighbours gave us as a present. Then I saw my family on Skype, they were opening the chocolate eggs with the hammer. …it has really been a nice and magical Easter day!
