BARBECUE

Giorni di caldo strano e improvviso…e qua tutti si spogliano e fanno barbeque nei giardini!! …martedì l’abbiamo fatto anche noi, e io ne sono rimasta molto contenta!!

Weird and sudden hot weather in these days…and here all the people undress themselves and fire their barbecues in gardens!! …last Tuesday we had a barbecue too, and I was really happy of it!!

Qua si arrostiscono “ciccia” e salsicce, e si mettono dentro a dei panini che sono stati tagliati in due (e qualcuno ci spalma dentro il burro…io no!), salsine a tanti gusti, verdure…in Italia, a casa, si arrostiscono sempre carne e salsicce, ma si fa anche la fettunta!!

Here they roast meat and sausages, and then they put them inside half cutted panini (and some of them spread a bit of butter on it …not me!), many sauces in different flavours, vegetables…in Italy, at home, we roast meat as well, but then me make fettunta, too!! (roasted bread with rubbed garlic, salt and olive oil).

Non mi lamento di questo caldo! Mi mancava!! 28 gradi anche oggi, e hanno detto che sarà così ancora un pò…speriamo sia vero!

I don’t complain about this warm weather! I missed it!! 28 C degress today, and they said it will last for a bit…I hope!

GNOCCHI E GELATO – GNOCCHI AND ICE-CREAM

Qualche giorno fa John ha voluto fare gli gnocchi. …e sono venuti anche buoni!! Non è difficile farli: basta lessare le patate, unire un pò di farina…ecco fatto! Impastare tutto bene fino ad avere un impasto liscio…e poi divertirsi a fare tante palline più o meno uguali!

Some days ago John wanted to make Gnocchi (similar to Potato dumplings)…and they came out pretty good! It’s not difficult making them: just boil some potatoes, add some flour…done! Mix all well together until you have a smooth dough..and then enjoy yourself making lot of small balls more or less of the same size!

Far bollire l’acqua, e cuocere gli gnocchi…finchè non vengono a galla magicamente!! Lasciarli ancora qualche minuto, e poi colare. Aggiungere un sugo a scelta, parmigiano…e buon appetito!!! …io ho fatto un pesto improvvisato con qualche foglia di salvia del giardino dei genitori di John, semi di zucca, olio di oliva e un pò di aglio!!

Boil water and cook the gnocchi until they magically rise to the surface!! Let them cook some other minutes, then strain. Add a sauce at your choice, Parmesan…and enjoy your meal!!! …I made an improvised pesto sauce with some Sage leaves from John’s parents garden, pumpkin seeds, olive oil and a bit of garlic!!

Vedete questa gente in fila nella foto qua sopra?? …erano tutti in fila per il gelato!! Domenica i genitori di John mi hanno portata a mangiare il gelato a Delph House Farm! …in pratica è una fattoria, con tante mucche, e con il loro latte fanno un gelato molto molto buono e lattoso!

Can you see all those people in a queue in the picture here above?? …they are all queuing for an ice-cream!! Last Sunday John’s parents brought me to eat an ice-cream at Delph House Farm! …practically it is a farm, with lot of cows, and with their milk they make a really really nice and milky ice-cream!

Avevano tanti gusti particolari, che mai avevo immaginato nè assaggiato!! E a quanto pare, i gusti variano spesso! …io ho preso “Mango Cheesecake”!! Era buonissimo!

There were lot of peculiar flavours, that I had never imagined nor tasted before!! And it seems that flavours change often! …I ate “Mango Cheesecake”!! It was really good!

HANDMADE JOY EXCHANGE CELEBRATION

Era circa la metà di Marzo quando ho scoperto il blog di Anne e ho lasciato un commento. Lei, molto gentilmente, mi ha risposto e mi ha mandato una mail chiedendomi se fossi interessata a partecipare all’”Handmade Joy Exchange” (= gioioso scambio di cose fatte a mano) che stava organizzando. E io ho accettato subito!!  In pratica dovevo preparare qualcosa fatto da me, e spedirlo alla persona che mi avrebbe suggerito Anne. Allo stesso tempo, avrei ricevuto un pacco, preparato da una persona segreta! Così, dopo un pò Anne mi ha comunicato a chi avrei dovuto spedire il mio “regalo”. …era sua mamma, Sharon! Che onore! Ho letto il suo blog di Sharon, e pensato un regalo per lei! Sembra una donna molto attiva e attenta ai dettagli. Quindi ho ideato una collana, con tanti ciondoli intercambiabili, in modo che potesse scegliere quello che più le piaceva! …tutto fatto all’uncinetto! Dopo un pò di lavoro, vari ripensamenti e cambiamenti, il mio regalo era pronto per essere spedito in Winsconsin!! Che emozione!!

It was nearly the half of March when I discovered Anne‘s blog and left a comment. She, kindly, answerd to it, and sent me and e-mail asking if I was interested in participating at the “Handmade Joy Exchange” that she was organising. I accepted immediately!! In practice, I had to handmade something and sent it to a person who Anne would have suggested me. In the same time, I would have received a Joyful parcel from a secret person! So, after a while, Anne communicated me who was the person whom I had to send my “present”. …it was her mum, Sharon!What an honour! I read  Sharon’s blog, and thought about a present for her! She seems a very active woman and really careful to details. So I conceived a necklace, with lots of interchangeable charms, so that she could have chosen which one she preferred! ..all crocheted! After a bit of work, various second thoughts and changes, my present was ready to be sent in Wisconsin!! What an excitement!!

Per Pasqua poi sono partita per l’Italia…e il giorno dopo la mia partenza, John mi ha detto che era arrivato un pacco dal Colorado per me! …la settimana dopo è venuto in Italia anche John, e mi ha portato il pacco!! E l’ho subito aperto! Era davvero curiosa di vedere cosa ci fosse dentro!

I went back to Italy for Easter…and the day after my departure, John said me that a parcel from Colorado was arrived, for me! …the following week John came to Italy, too, and he brought me the parcel!! I instantly opened it! I was really curious to see what there was inside it!

Una bellissima sorpresa per me!! Realizzata per me da Sharon di “the teacup incident“…sì, un’altra Sharon!! Lei è una grafica, che vive in Colorado, ed è dotata di molta fantasia!

Dentro il biglietto (cucito a macchina) c’era un messaggio per me, una bambola di carta e alcune etichette! Grazie Sharon!!

Ho portato di nuovo il regalo con me in Inghilterra! …e la bambola di carta ha esplorato questi nuovi ambienti con molta curiosità! Prima è andata a controllare che tutte le nuove piantine di John stessero crescendo bene!

I took the present back to England with me! …and the paper doll explored these new spaces with lot of curiosity! First of all she went checking if all John’s new plants were growing well!

Mi ha aiutata mentre lavoravo al computer, e ha dormicchiato un pò insieme a Robbie!

She helped me while I was working on pc, and she snoozed a bit with Robbie!

Poi è andato in giardino, ad annusare i fiori!

Then she went into the garden, smelling flowers!

Si è fatta dei nuovi amici e mi ha aiutata a stendere i panni!

She made new friends and helped my hanging out the laundry!

Poi, stanca, si è stesa sull’erba per riposarsi ed abbronzarsi! …adesso crede di essere abbronzata…non ditele, per favore che non si vede per niente che è stata al sole!

Then, really tired, she lied on the grass to relax herself and get a tan! …now she thinks to be tanned…please, don’t tell her, that you cannot tell she was in the sun!

LA FEBBRE DEI SEMI – SEEDS’ FEVER

Il mango mi piace tantissimo…e ieri me ne sono pappata uno!! Succoso, dolce…buonissimo!! Poi, presa dalla “febbre per i semi” non ho potuto buttare via il seme, e ho cercato su internet come fare a crescere un Mango! John ha aperto il guscio duro, e io, di corsa, ho tolto da dentro il seme tenero!! Bello!

I like Mango a lot…and yesterday I wolfed one down!! Juicy, sweet…good!! Then, having the “seeds’ fever” I couldn’t throw the seed away, and I searched on internet how to grow a Mango! John opened the hard stone and I  quickly, took the tender seed from the inside!! Beautiful!!

…lo vedete come in questa foto sopra, chieda di essere piantato? Non posso resistere! …ha sete!! Devo dargli da bere!

Quindi l’ho messo in questo contenitore di plastica, con un pezzo di scottex in fondo e acqua! Adesso beve ed è contento! Non ho voluto nemmeno infilzarlo con gli stuzzicadenti, come qualcuno suggerisce!! Aspetto di vedere cosa succederà.

So I putted it in this plastic container, with a piece of kitchen roll at the bottom and water! Now it’s drinking and it’s happy! I didn’t want to stick it with tootpichs, neither, as someone suggests!! I’m waiting to see what it will happen.

E che ci fanno questi semi di Avocado qua nell’acqua? …li abbiamo mangiati qualche giorno fa, quando abbiamo fatto una “cena messicana”…e ho DOVUTO per forza farli crescere!! Sabato ne ho dovuti buttare via tre, e mi ha pianto il cuore!! …ma non penso di poterli coltivare tutti!

And what are these Avocado’s seeds doing in water? …we ate Avocados some days ago, when we cooked a “mexican dinner”…and I HAD to make them grow!! Last Saturday I had to throw three of them away, and I was very sad about that!! …but I don’t think I could grow all of them!

Vi mostro poi gli orecchini che ho fatto e spedito a mia mamma per la “festa della mamma”, che in Italia era domenica scorsa! ..fatti all’uncinetto! (preso la schema da qua, dopo aver visto questo!).

I show you then the earrings I made and sent to my mum for “Mother’s day”, that in Italy we celebrated last Sunday! ..crocheted! (I took the pattern from here, after reading this!).

C’erano dei bianchi di uovo avanzato in frigo, e non sapevamo cosa farne. Mi sarebbe piaciuto fare le Meringhe, ma so che sono abbastanza complicate. Così ho cercato su internet, e ho trovato la ricetta di questo dolce. Si chiama Munavalgekook (Estonia), ed è molto buono! Provatelo!

There were some egg whites in leftover in the fridge, and we didn’t know what to do with them. I would have liked making some Meringues, but I knew they are really difficult to do. So I searched on internet, and found the recipe of this cake. It’s called Munavalgekook (Estonian), and it is really good! Try it!

BIG FAMILIES

Quando si vive in una grande famiglia, a volte bisogna ingegnarsi per evitare certi problemi! …qualche anno fa capitava che, quando uscivo la sera, venivo spesso chiusa fuori di casa! Questo perchè quando i miei fratelli tornavano prima di me, e pensavano che io fossi già nel mio letto, mettevano il “paletto” alla porta. Io allora, dovevo suonare il campanello e svegliare i miei genitori se volevo entrare in casa. Pensa e ripensa, ho costruito questo “segnalatore di presenze”, che ho poi attaccato alla porta. Basta far scorrere la barretta con il nome, per uscire fuori casa, e il nome sparisce dalla finestrella. In questo modo tutti potevamo sapere chi era in casa e chi era fuori. …per un pò ha funzionato, poi uno dei miei fratelli (non faccio nomi, ma noi sappiamo chi è, vero??), non guardava più il segnale e ho ricominciato a chiudermi fuori di casa! …ecco perchè ho deciso di venire a vivere in Inghilterra!!

When you live in a big family you’ve got to “sharpen up yours wits” if you want to avoid certain problems! …some years ago, when I went out in the evening, I was locked out of home! This happened because, when my brothers came back home before me, and they thought I was just sleeping in my bed, they putted “the bolt” at the door. Then I had to ring the bell, awake my parents if I wanted to go inside. Thinking and thinking again, I built this “presences’ signal”, and I hanged it to the door. We just had to slip the “label with our name”  when we went out, and the name disappeared from the window. In that way all of us could have known who was in the house and who was out. It worked for a while, then one of my brother (I don’t tell you his name, but all of us know who he is, don’t we??), didn’t watch at the signal anymore, and he started closing me out of home again! …that’s why I decided to come to live here in England!!

E’ già una settimana che sono tornata qua…e questa sopra è la prima cosa che ho visto quando ho fatto la prima camminata in Uk: pecore e fagiani! ..mi mancavano!!

One week is passed since I came back here…and this is the first thing I saw when I made my first “walk” here in Uk: sheep and pheasants! ..I missed them!!

Sono andata alla banca, a prendere l’appuntamento per aprire il conto. E tornando indietro, ho trovato questi alberi di ciliegio, che stavano perdendo i petali e avevano riempito la strada. …mi hanno ricordato tanto le foto che ho visto nei blog di Yanello e Laura, che vivono in Giappone! Da loro ci sono tantissimi alberi di ciliegio, che vengono chiamati Sakura…e quando cadono i petali cospargono completamente grandi aree delle città! Quindi per un momento, mi sono sentita in Giappone, e non più in Uk!

I went to the Bank, to take an appointment to open a bank account. Walking back home I found this Cherry trees that were loosing their petals, and filled the street with them. They reminded my the pictures I saw in Yanello and Lau blog, who are living in Japan! Over there, there are a lot of Cherry Trees, that they call Sakura…and when petals fell down, they fill big areas of the cities! So, for I moment, I thought I was in Japan and not in Uk!

CITTADELLA DEL CARNEVALE – CARNIVAL “SMALL TOWN”

Quando sono andata a Viareggio con i miei genitori, abbiamo visitato la “Cittadella del Carnevale”, che e’ stata costruita nel 2001 e non avevo ancora visto. Mi ricordo, che quando andavo alle elementari, eravamo andati con la scuola a vedere la costruzione dei famosi carri di cartapesta per il Carnevale, ed era stato davvero interessante per me. Adesso hanno costruito questo nuovo complesso, a cui ha lavorato anche uno dei miei ex-professori dell’Universita’.

When I went to Viareggio with my parents, we went visiting the “Cittadella del Carnevale” (=Carnival Little Town), that was built in 2001 and I had not seen yet. I remember, when I went to the Primary School, we went with the school to see how they built the famous Papier-mâché floats for the Carnival, and it was really interesting to me. They built this new building this new complex, where one of my ex-teacher of university worked, too.

La costruzione e’ molto interessante, e mi e’ piaciuta molto. Ho poi scoperto che nell’immensa piazza, sono spesso organizzati molti spettacoli, soprattutto durante il periodo estivo. Immagino che sara’ davvero suggestivo assistere ad uno spettacolo in questo spazio. ..anche mio nipote Simone ha fatto vari spettacoli la’, insieme al suo gruppo di Gymnaestrada!

The building is really interesting, and I liked it a lot. I discovered that in the big square in the middle, there are often organised shows, expecially during the summer period. I imagine it will be really suggestive attending at a show in that space. …my nephew Simone made various performance over there with his Gymnaestrada group!

Siamo stati fortunati, perche’ almeno uno dei laboratori dove realizzano i carri era aperto…e abbiamo potuto sbirciare all’interno. C’e’ anche un “Museo del Carnevale“, che era purtroppo chiuso quando siamo andati noi.

We were lucky, because just one of the workshops where they built the Papier-mâché floats was opened…and we were able to peep inside. There is a “Museum of the Carnival” too, but it was closed when we went.

Le strutture che realizzano sono immense e veramente impressionanti!
