Apple Crumble is one of my preferred cakes…and some days ago I cooked it here in England, its country of origin!

Prima di tutto, riscaldate il forno a 180 C. Prendete 450 gr di mele (io ho preso le Bramley, a volte ho usato anche le Granny Smith), sbucciatele, togliete il torsolo e tagliatele a spicchi. Di solito faccio 12 spicchi da una mela! Mettete le mele tagliate in un contenitore e aggiungete 50 gr di zucchero di canna e 1 cucchiaio di cannella (..potete metterne anche di piu’ se vi piace parecchio!). Mescolate tutto bene.

First of all preheat the oven at 180 C. Take 450 gr apples (I took Bramley, sometimes I used Granny Smith, too) and peel, core and cut them in pieces. I usually make 12 pieces from 1 apple! Place the fruit in a large bowl and add 50 gr of brown sugar and 1 tablespoon of cinnamon (..you can add more cinnamon if you like it a lot!). Mix well.

A questo punto, dobbiamo cuocere le mele! Imburrate una teglia e versateci dentro le mele. Potete cuocerle dove preferite, o in forno (coperte da un foglio di alluminio) o in microonde.  Io solitamente le cuocio nel microonde, coperte con un pezzo di Scottex in modo che non schizzino ovunque. Le cuocio alla massima potenza, girandole piu’ volte, finche’ non diventano morbide, ma non troppo. Comunque decidiate di cuocerle, controllatele bene: devono rimanere “intere”, e non diventare una pappa!

At this point we have to cook the apples! Butter a ovenproof dish and spoon the fruit mixture into it. You can cook them in the oven (covered by a foil sheet), or in the microwave. I usually cook them in the microwave, covered with a piece of kitchen roll, so that they won’t splash everywhere. I cook them at maximum power, stirring from time to time, until they are soft, but not too much. However you’ll choose to cook the apples, check the well: they should remain “solid”, not a “mush”!

Mentre le mele cuociono, potete preparare il Crumble (=briciolo). Mettete in una zuppiera 300 gr di farina, 175 gr di zucchero di canna, 200 gr di burro a temperatura ambiente tagliato a dadi e 1 pizzico di sale. Il trucco per fare il crumble e’ “strizzare” tutto insieme, con le mani, fino ad amalgamare tutto. Alla fine otterrete delle “briciole”, come quelle nella foto qua sotto.

While apples are cooking, you can make the Crumble. Take a large mixing bowl and add 300 gr plain flour, 175 gr brown sugar, 200 gr unsalted butter cubed at room temperature, 1 pinch of salt. Rub the butter into the flour with your fingerprints until it resembles breadcrumbs. You should have crumbs similar to these in the pictures here below.

Prendete le vostre mele cotte, e metterci sopra il crumble, fino a coprirle tutte. Dovreste avere circa 0,5-1 cm di copertura “briciolosa”!

Take your cooked fruit mixture and sprinkle it with the crumble on top. You should have about 0.5-1 cm of crumble-cover!

Mettete in forno (a 180 C) e cuocete per circa 40-45 minuti…ma controllate! Non fate come me: il mio si e’ un po’ bruciato …ma era buono comunque!!

Put it in oven (at 180 C) and bake for about 40-45 minutes…but check it! Don’t do as I did: mine burnt a bit …but it was good anyway!!

Poi servitelo!! Qua in Inghilterra lo mangiano spruzzandoci sopra un po’ di panna…o versandoci sopra crema o panna liquida. Provatelo anche con un po’ di gelato alla crema! beh…una volta che l’avrete assaggiato, potrete divertirvi creando varianti e decorandolo come piu’ vi piace! mmmmh….guardando queste foto mi viene voglia di prepararne un altro!!

Then serve it!! Here in England people eat it with some squirty cream…or pouring custard or cream. Try it with a bit of cream ice-cream, too! well…one you have tasted it, you could enjoy yourself playing with variations, and decorating it as you like! mmmh…watching at this pictures I got the urge to bake another one!

IT’S SNOWIN HERE!! I like snow a lot!!! …I’m jumping around the house!

Domenica scorsa sono andata a fare un giro qua intorno, sul Peak District. E’ un posto meraviglioso!! Il secondo parco nazionale piu’ visitato al mondo!! Ci sono paesaggi bellissimi da vedere, molti dei quali contornati da muretti a secco ricoperti di muschio! Questo posto e’ molto importante, perche’ e’ formato da rocce sedimentarie e vi si possono trovare molti strati diversi, a iniziare dal periodo Carbonifero (360.000.000 di anni fa!).

Last Sunday I went for a trip around here, on the Peak District. It’s a fantastic place!! It’s the second most-visited national park in the world!! There are beautiful landscapes, most of them bordered by moss-covered dry stones walls! This place is really important, because it is formed from sedimentary rocks and here you can find lots of different layers, dating from the Carboniferous period (360.000.000 years ago!).

Queste zone sono state abitate fin dai tempi remoti, e non e’ difficile trovare alcuni reperti archeologici risalenti al Neolitico! Quello che vedete in queste foto e’ Arbor Low, che noi siamo andati a visitare. E’ davvero affascinante e, nonostante le pietre giacciano tutte a terra, non e’ difficile immaginarsi come poteva essere un tempo.

This place has been inhabited from the earliest periods of human activity, and it’s not difficult to find archeological finds dating back to the Neolithic age! This you are seeing in the pictures is Arbor Low, that we visited. It’s really fascinating and, despite the stones are all lying down, it’s not difficult to imagine how it could have been in the past time.

Tirava un vento fortissimo lassu’! Non avevo mai sentito niente di simile prima!! A Prato tira spesso vento forte, ma non cosi’!! Non riuscivo a camminare…e stavo per cadere da una di quelle “collinette” che vedete, mentre facevo una foto!! Incredibile cosa puo’ succedere in questi posti “magici”!!

The wind was so strong over there! I had never felt anything like that before!! In Prato the wind blows often, and really strong, but not strong as over there!! I couldn’t walk…and I was nearly to fall down from one of the “hills” you can see in the picture, while I was taking a photo! It’s incredible what can happen in these “magical” places!!

L”ingresso e’ gratuito. Il sito e’ di proprieta’ privata e si puo’ visitare soltanto grazie alla cortesia del proprietario. Hanno messo questo “Honesty Box” all’ingresso, e chiedono 1 sterlina a testa! …se sei onesto metti la tua moneta la’ dentro, ma nessuno sapra’ mai se ce l’hai messa o no…o se addirittura hai svuotato la cassetta di tutto quello che c’era dentro! Ma chissa’…magari gli spiriti delle persone che sono state sepolte lassu’ (dato che a pochi metri di distanza c’e’ anche un tumulo, e hanno trovato alcuni scheletri), verranno a cercarti!! Immaginate che spettacolo avere un sito Neolitico nel giardino??!

The entry is free. The site is private property, accessible through the courtesy of the owner. They put this “Honesty box” at the entry, and they ask for 1 pound each! …if you are honest, you put your coin in it, but nobody will know if you did it or not…or if you emptied it! But who knows …it’s possible that the ghosts of the people buried there will come to find you (there is a barrow, and they found some human skeletons)!! Can you imagine how fantastic it is having a Neolithic site in your garden??!

Volevamo poi vedere anche il cerchio di Nine Ladies, che e’ la’ vicino ed e’ dell’eta’ del Bronzo. Purtroppo pero’ stava facendo buio, e non avendo una mappa con noi non sapevamo quanto ci sarebbe stato da camminare. Beh…sara’ per la prossima volta, torneremo sicuramente da quelle parti!

We wanted then have a look to Nine Ladies stone circle, that it’s not far from where we were and it’s a Bronze Age stone circle. Unfortunately it was getting dark,  we didn’t have a map and we didn’t know how much we should have walked to get there. Well…we’ll go there next time, we’ll surely go back there again!

Un paio di anni fa io e John abbiamo fatto una camminata di un giorno su questi Moors (vedi questo post). Una cosa bellissima! Non vedo l’ora che arrivi la primavera per poter fare ancora nuove camminate come quella! Quando abbiamo camminato sui Moors, abbiamo sentito una strana risata, …era un Red Grouse (la pernice bianca scozzese), un uccello che vive solo in quelle zone e in Irlanda. …se volete ascoltare la sua risata, cliccate qua, e poi su PLAY!

A couple of years ago John and I walked all one day on these Moors (read this post). A fantastic thing! I’m looking forward to spring to arrive, so that we could do again walking like that one! When we walked over the Moors, we heard a strange laugh, …it was a Red Grouse, a bird that lives in that places and in Ireland…if you want to hear its laugh, click here, and the on PLAY!

At last the verdict for my interview is arrived. Unfortunately I didn’t get the job. The mail I received is in reality really positive. They wrote to me that they had chosen “four excellent candidates”…and I was one of them. They wrote that they enjoyed meeting me, and I was a “very strong candidate”. But they found an applicant with more experience, as I was fearing. They said to me that they would like to keep my details on file in case any further vacancies arise.

Intanto mi consolo mangiando un panino con il Salmone Rosso, che e’ buonissimo e non avevo mai mangiato prima!!

In the meantime I am comforting myself eating a Red Salmon Sandwich. Red Salmon is really good, I had never eaten it before!!

Poi incrocio le dita, perche’ almeno una delle applicazioni che ho continuato a fare nei giorni scorsi vada a buon fine. Ho bisogno di un lavoro…e la situazione non e’ per niente bella!! Qua in UK e’ molto meglio che in Italia, ma e’ comunque difficile oggi trovare un lavoro. Non mi faccio scoraggiare pero’, e continuo ad essere ottimista e sperare di trovare presto qualcosa.

Then, I keep my fingers crossed, so that at least one of the applications I made in the last days will go ok. I need a job…and the situation is not really nice!! Here in UK it’s better than in Italy, but it’s difficult today finding a job. I won’t easily put off, and I’ll continue being optimistic and hoping to find soon something.

Oggi non e’ freddo, ma e’ tanto grigio e non ha smesso di piovere un secondo! Nei giorni scorsi invece era freddo…e quando mi sono affacciata alla finestra ho visto tutto bianco! Era brina!! Ma cosi’ tanta, che e’ rimasta la’ tutto il giorno!!

Today it’s not cold, but it’s grey and it didn’t stop raining a second! In the past days it was cold…and when I watched outside the window I saw all white! It was frost!! There was so much frost, that it lasted all day!!

Per finire con una cosa positiva, vi mostro le foto di questo arcobaleno che ho visto ieri!! Era intero!!! …speriamo che sia un segno positivo!

As promised, here it is a post about Milton Keynes. Coming back to Sheffield from London, we stopped to visit this strange and particular place. John told me about that, and because it was on our way, we decided to stop and see it with our eyes. This is a place that every Architecture student, in particular Urban planning students, should see! I really didn’t like this city!! I found it sad, cold, empty of appeal and peculiar point of views. In 1967 the Govern decided to built a new city, in London’s suburbs, to accomodate in the following 20 years, a population of about 250,000. … basically the scope of this city was  to relieve housing congestion in London. In addition the site was deliberately located equidistant from London, Birmingham, Leicester,  Oxford e Cambridge with the intention that it would be self-sustaining and eventually become a major regional centre in its own right. Milton Keynes was planned and realised following a grid pattern…this is why I felt so bad impressed!! There isn’t a “center”….the center is a “commercial center”. I felt like I wasn’t part of the city, like I was just passing through. I couldn’t live in a place where I felt just “passing through”. I greet you with a slideshow of pictures I took there. Abbiamo iniziato con i “Tortellini in brodo”.

Many times here in England people asked me what we traditionally eat for Christmas in Italy. I didn’t remember it!!! When I came back to Italy for Christmas, I took photos during our lunch, so I won’t forget it again…otherwise my mum will get angry!!:-) Obviously, what we eat change region from region, often city from city, and family from family!! I show you what we ate in my home, in Prato (Tuscany)!

We started with “Tortellini in brodo” (Tortellini soup)!

Poi abbiamo mangiato il cappone lesso. Questo cappone era fresco, ed era un regalo di un cliente al mio babbo!

Then we ate “Cappone lesso” (boiled flesh of a castrated male chicken). This Cappone was fresh, it was a present from a client to my dad!

Poi abbiamo mangiato questa carne arrostita in forno con le patate (…non mi ricordo che tipo di carne era… )

Then we ate this Oven roasted meat with Potatoes (I don’t remember which kind of meat it was )

E per finire, un Panettone con Crema Catalana cosparsa di cannella…una variante inventata da mia mamma! Tanto per rimanere leggeri e digerire bene tutto il pranzo!!

To finish, a Panettone with Creme Brule’ sprinkled with Cinnamon…a variation invented by my mum! That’s was to finish light the meal and digest well all our lunch!!

Dato che non avevo potuto portare i Christmas Crackers in Italia, John (che e’ venuto a passare il Natale in Italia, per salutare tutti gli amici…ma soprattutto i miei nipoti!) li ha costruiti per noi!

I was not able to bring Christmas Crackers back to Italy, so John (who came to Italy to pass Christmas with us, to greet all his friends…but most of all to see again my nephews!) created them for us!

Abbiamo tagliato questi cappelli di carta con carta velina bianca (dato che non ne avevo colorata a casa), e stampato sopra, con alcuni stampini fatti da noi.

We cut these Paper hats in white tissue paper (I didn’t have any coloured one), and we printed on them with some stamps we made.

John ha preso lo schema per tagliare i Christmas Crackers da questo blog (fantastico!), e poi li abbiamo riempiti con piccoli “coriandoli” tagliati da noi (..sapete?? in inglese i “coriandoli” si dicono “confetti”!), alcune caramelle, un cappello di carta e una frase natalizia!

John downloaded the pattern for cutting Christmas Crackers from this blog (that it’s fantastic!), then we filled them with little “confetti” cutted by us (do you know? in italian “confetti” mean “sugared almonds”!), some sweets, one paper hat and a greeting sentence!

Sono piaciuti a tutti!! Peccato non aver potuto mettere l’esplosivo per fare l’effetto “bang”!

Everyone liked them!! It’s a shame that we weren’t able to put the explosive in them to have the “bang” effect!

Ho realizzato questa “giostrina” per un bambino che sta per nascere (il primo nipote della mia amica Stefania!), seguendo le istruzioni del libro di Paula Rimoli. L’ape pero’ e’ di mia invenzione!!

I realised this “children mobile hanger” for a baby who will born soon (the first nephew of my friend Stefania!), following the instruction of the book of Paula Rimoli. But the bee is a my creation!!

Spero che il nuovo nato si diverta tanto con questo gioco e lo aiuti a diventare curioso del mondo che c’e’ intorno a lui!

Il mio nipote Elia e’ pazzo per l’Uomo Ragno. Prima di partire per l’Inghilterra ho realizzato questo cappello per lui. Prima di tutto ho realizzato il cappello, seguendo queste istruzioni, apportando pero’ alcune modifiche.

My nephew Elia is mad for Spiderman. Before leaving for England I made this hat for him. First of all I realised the hat, following these instructions, adding some modifications.

Per fare gli occhi, ho realizzato due specie di triangoli bianchi, con un bordo nero intorno e li ho cuciti sul cappello.

To make the eyes, I realised two white triangular shapes, with a black edging around, and I sow them on the hat.

Per il ricamo della ragnatela, mi sono ispirata un po’ a questo blog, un po’ all’immagine dell’Uomo Ragno. Ho usato dello scotch di carta per “disegnare” sul cappello la ragnatela, in modo da poter ricamare con piu’ facilita’ tutte le linee necessarie.

To embroider the web, I took inspiration from this blog,  and from Spiderman picture, too. I used masking tape to “draw” the web on the hat, so that was easier for me embroider all the necessary lines.

Elia e’ rimasto cosi’ contento del cappello, che non esce piu’ di casa senza!!

A Bristol, proprio vicino all’albergo dove ho alloggiato una notte per il mio colloquio, c’era questa chiesa, Temple Church, molto interessante. E’ stata costruita dai cavalieri templari nel XII secolo (wow!)…e fu poi distrutta dai bombardamenti durante la seconda guerra mondiale. La torre e’ alta circa 35 metri…ed e’ pendente! Quindi mi sono sentita quasi a casa (torre di Pisa)!!

In Bristol, near the Hotel where I stayed one night for the interview, there was this really interesting church, Temple Church. It was built by Knights Templar during the XII century (wow!)…then it was destroyed by bombardments during the Second World War. The tower is about 114 feet…and it bends! So I felt like being at home (Pisa Tower)!!

I Donuts sono buoni!!! *** Donuts are good!!!

Sabato scorso sono andata vicino a Londra, per una festa di compleanno a sorpresa. Dovevamo vestirci di Bianco e Rosso. Tutte le volte, mi porto maglie, maglioni, giacche, sciarpe,…poi mi guardo intorno e vedo che, quando vanno ad una festa, le donne inglesi indossano soltanto abiti estivi, senza giacche, calze, …e allora decido sempre di affrontare il freddo inglese nella stessa loro maniera! In realta’ in queste ultime settimane qua non e’ stato molto freddo, adesso sono 10 gradi Centigradi, cosa molto strana per questo periodo dell’anno.

Last Saturday I went near London for a surprise birthday party. We had to wear Red and White dresses. Every time I take sweaters, coats, scarfs,…then I look around myself and I see that, when they’re going to a party, English ladies wear only summer dresses, without coats, tights….so, I always decide to  approach the English cold weather in the same way as they do! Actually in these last weeks is not cold here, now it’s 10 degrees Centigrade, that it’s really strange for this time of the year.

Arrivati al posto della festa (un ristorante italiano…), ci hanno dato questi “Party Poppers”, da far scoppiare solo quando la festeggiata avrebbe varcato la soglia del locale. Ci siamo dovuti nascondere tutti al piano sopra…e aspettare!!

When we arrived at the place of the party (an Italian restaurant…), they gave us these “Party Poppers”, that we had to pop only when the birthday girl would have entered in the restaurant. We had to hide ourselves upstairs…and wait!!

C’erano tante persone…e io ero l’unica italiana (a parte i proprietari del ristorante!). Mi sono divertita, e ho mangiato un bel po’!! Non che mi mancasse il cibo italiano…ero solo curiosa di assaggiare quello che avevano preparato.

There were lot of people…and I was the only Italian (a part from the restaurant’s  owners!). I enjoyed myself, and ate a lot!! I wasn’t missing the italian food…but I was so curious to taste what they cooked.

Tornando a Sheffield, da Londra, ci siamo fermati a visitare un paese davvero strano e particolare, di cui vi parlero’ in uno dei prossimi post: Milton Keynes.

Coming back to Sheffield from London, we made a stop to visit a really strange and peculiar place, which I will explain you in one of the next posts: Milton Keynes.

So che siete curiosi di sapere come e’ andata!! Beh…vi racconto subito!! Prima di tutto ho fatto un lungo viaggio in autobus, da Sheffield a Bristol (6 ore di viaggio), e ho dormito all’Holiday Inn. Il mio colloquio era alle 15 del pomeriggio, quindi ho avuto un po’ di tempo per prepararmi prima, cambiare albergo (sono andata poi al Travelodge, che e’ molto piu’ economico), fare colazione, fare un giretto, …e andare finalmente a fare il colloquio!

I know that you’re curious to know how my interview went! Well…I’ll let you know immediately!! First of all I had a long trip by coach from Sheffield to Bristol (6 hours of trip), and I slept at the Holiday Inn. My interview was at 3pm, so I had a bit of time to get ready, change hotel (I went at the Travelodge, because it’s cheaper), have a breakfast, have a little walk around, …and at least I went to the interview!

Ero un po’ emozionata…ma non tanto quanto immaginavo prima di andarci! Non vedevo l’ora di entrare dentro, perche’ finisse tutto prima possibile!

I was a bit emotional…but not so much as I imagined before going there! I was looking forward to go inside, so that everything would have ended soon!

Il mio primo colloquio in Uk. E’ stato allo stesso tempo scioccante e interessante! Non mi sarei mai immaginata che mi facessero tutte quelle domande! Sono arrivata circa 10 minuti prima dell’appuntamento, mi hanno fatto firmare un registro, e fatta accomodare in una stanza. Ho tirato fuori tutte le mie cose: Curriculum, Portfolio, documenti, certificati di laurea e diplomi, le varie pubblicazioni con alcuni dei miei lavori, e il libro della mia tesi.
Erano in due a farmi il colloquio. …hanno tirato fuori 3-4 pagine piene di domande che dovevano farmi! Alcune erano semplici, del tipo “parlaci te e e di cosa ti piace fare”, o “parlaci dei lavori che hai fatto fino ad ora”. Altre piu’ complesse, come “cosa pensi di poter portare alla nostra azienda”. “qual e’ la cosa che ti interessa maggiormente nel lavoro che facciamo”, “pensi di poter lavorare organizzando il tuo lavoro seguendo il nostro metodo”, “come pensi di affrontare l’analisi storica di una costruzione”…
..altre veramente strane, come “immagina di avere un armadio pieno di gonne e vestiti, come lo organizzi per fare in modo che sia semplice accoppiare i vari capi?”. Una veramente difficile e’ stata “cosa pensi che abbia dovuto affrontare la nostra ditta negli ultimi 5 anni?”. Una volta che tutte le domande sono terminate e le pagine riempite, pensavo che la “tortura” fosse finita, invece si sono inventati altre domande, questa volta piu’ tecniche per capire come avrei fatto a portare avanti vari tipi di lavoro.
….sono riuscita a rispondere piu’ o meno a tutto. Non e’ facile parlare in inglese di cose cosi’ tecniche, ma sembra che abbiano capito tutto quello che dicevo. La cosa che mi preoccupa un po’ e’ che, capisco molto piu’ di quello che parlo, e non  so quanto la gente comprenda questo. Mi so spiegare, riesco a esprimere piu’ o meno tutto quello che ho in testa, ma a volte devo fare dei giri di parole o non trovo le parole giuste….ho solo bisogno di pratica!
La cosa che ho trovato molto molto positiva del mio colloquio e’ che mi hanno dedicato 1 ora e mezzo!!! Non era mai mai successo in Italia. Ho capito che avevano letto il mio Curriculum (altra cosa che in Italia spesso non mi e’ successa), e avevano cercato di capire che tipo di persona sono gia’ prima di incontrarmi. Sembravano davvero molto seri e professionali, e realmente intenzionati a capirmi, a capire chi sono e cosa voglio dalla vita.
Non so se avro’ il lavoro, mi hanno detto che hanno gia’ incontrato altre persone, e dovevano incontrarne altre due nei prossimi giorni, e che mi faranno sapere non prima di due settimane. Vogliono analizzare tutti bene e scegliere quella che pensano sara’ la persona giusta per loro.
Sono molto contenta, comunque vada, di come ho affrontato tutto. E sono rimasta soddisfatta dalla considerazione e dal tempo che mi hanno dedicato.
Se mi scegliessero, so gia’ che non sara’ un lavoro semplice! Ci saranno miliardi di cose da imparare, da considerare, ogni volta! Ma mi hanno assicurato che mi faranno un “training” per tutto! E inoltre, mi hanno chiesto se mi piacerebbe avere anche altri tipi di training…e hanno suggerito uno di lingua inglese, che di sicuro mi sara’ utile per poter parlare piu’ fluentemente anche con i clienti. (ovviamente questi training sarebbe pagati da loro!).
Per la prima volta sono stata fiera di essere italiana! Sembravano davvero molto  contenti che io venissi dall’Italia e che potessi portare alla loro azienda qualcosa di diverso!

Finite tutte le loro domande, mi hanno chiesto di fare delle domande a loro!! Cosa??  In Italia nessuno me lo aveva chiesto prima! Io non ero preparata!! Ne ho tirate fuori alcune, e ripensandoci ora me ne verrebbero molte di piu’ e piu’ interessanti…ma ormai quel che e’ fatto e’ fatto! La prossima volta, alla prossima intervista, saro’ piu’ preparata!!

My first interview in Uk. It was at the same time shocking and interesting! I had never expected so many questions! I arrived about 10 minutes before the appointment, they made me sign a register, and let me take a seat in a room. I pulled out all my things: Curriculum, Portfolio, documents, certificates of University degree and other schools, books where some of my projects are printed, and my thesis’s book.

There were two of them interviewing me….they pull out 3-4 sheets of paper full of questions for me! Some of them were simple, something like “speak about you and what you like to do”, or “speak about the works you have done since now.

Others were more difficult, like “what do you think you can give to our practice?”, “what is the thing you’re more interested on, in the work we do here?”, “do you think to be able to organise your work following our methods?”, “how do you think you could approach the historical investigation of a building?”…

…some others were really odd, like “imagine to have a wardrobe full of skirts and dresses. How would you organise it to make more easier matching them?”. One question really tough was “what do you think our practice faced in the last five years?”. After I answered all the questions and all the pages were filled I thought the interview was near to finish, instead they asked me more questions about technical stuffs, to know how I would have managed to organise various types of works.

…I was able to answer to everything, more or less. It’s not easy speaking in English of technical things, but it seemed they understood what I wanted to say. The thing that worries me more is that I understand much more than I can speak, but I don’t know how much people will understand this. I am able to explain more or less everything that is in my mind, but sometimes I need to do use “roundabout expression”, and I don’t find the right words…I only need practice!

The thing I found really really positive of my interview is that they dedicated to me 1 hour and a half!!! It never happened to me in Italy. I realised they read my Curriculum (another thing that often didn’t happen in Italy), and they tried to understand what kind of person I am, before meeting me. They seemed really serious and professional, and really intentioned to understand me, understand who I am, and what I want from life.

I don’t know if I’ll have the job, they said me that they had already met some other people and had to meet some others in the following days, and they will let me know not before two weeks. They want to analyse everything really well and choose the right person for them.

I’m really happy, however it will go, for how I faced everything. And I am really satisfied that they showed me consideration and for the time they dedicated me.

If they’ll choose me I know that it won’t be an easy job! There will be billions of things to learn, to take in consideration everytime! They assured me they’ll give me training for everything! Then, they asked me if I’d like to receive some more “training”…and suggested an English course, that it will be really useful for me, to speak English more fluently with clients (obviously these trainings will be paid from them!).

For the first time in my life I was proud to be Italian! They seemed so happy that I come from Italy and that I could bring in their practice something new!

When all their questions were done, they said that I had to ask something to them!! What?? In Italy nobody ask that before! I wasn’t ready for that!! I made some questions, and thinking about that now, I could have more questions and more interesting ones…but let bygones be bygones! Next time, on my next interview, I’ll be more ready!! :-)

La sera del colloquio, una volta scaricata tutta l’adrenalina accumulata, ero cosi’ stanca che mi sono addormentata poco dopo le 22! Prima di dormire pero’ sono voluta andare a mangiare a Pizza Hut, e in un Pub a bere un sidro di mele!

The evening of the interview, once relieved all the adrenalin stored, I was so tired that I fall asleep less far from 10pm! Before going to be, I wanted to eat at Pizza Hut and in a Pub, to drink an apple cider!

Nel frattempo, spediro’ ancora altri Curricula, e cerchero’ anche di inventarmi qualcosa di diverso.

Intanto, questo fine settimana mi aspetta una festa, a St. Albans, vicino a Londra! Sara’ una bella occasione per rilassarmi e festeggiare il colloquio appena fatto.

In the meanwhile I’ll send some more Curricula, and I’ll try to invent something else.

These week-end a party, a St. Albans, near London, is waiting for me! It will be a nice occasion to relax myself and to celebrate my interview!
