Qua procede tutto bene. …e voi come state? Tra un paio di settimane dovrei avere internet in casa e poi dovrei essere a posto!! Sono alla biblioteca di Cambridge oggi, durante il mio giorno di libertà!! Stamattina mi sono arrivati il materasso e l’armadio…e non vedo l’ora che John torni a casa stasera per farmi aiutare a montarlo, perchè è troppo pesante e non riesco a spostarlo da sola!!

Here everything is going ok. ..and how are you? In a couple of weeks I should have internet at home and after that I should be fine!! Today I’m at Cambridge’s Library, because it’s my freedom day!! This morning my mattress and wardrobe are arrived…and I’m looking forward for John to arrive home this evening because I need his help to assemble it, because it’s too heavy and I’m not able to move it on my own!!
Queste sono foto scattate all’inizio di Dicembre, quando sono andata a St. Ives per assistere alla festa del paese dell’accensione delle luci natalizie!! Avevo deciso di risparmiare e invece di prendere il treno ho preso l’autobus (National Express), che costa molto meno….ma mi sono fatta 8 ore di viaggio anzichè 2!! Ma senza avventura non mi piace, quindi ero molto contenta! Durante il viaggio mi sono anche fermata circa un’ora a Londra, e sono andata a fare una visita alla regina.

I took these pictures at the beginning of December, when I went to St. Ives to participate at the town event for the lighting of the Christmas lights!! I decided to save money, so instead of travelling by train I went by bus (National Express), that is a lot cheaper…but I had a 8 hours trip instead of 2!! But I don’t like it without a bit of adventure, so I was really happy! During the trip I even stopped about one hour in London, and I went to visit the queen.

Once in St. Ives I found lots and lots of water!! And lots and lots of cold, too!!
La cappellina sul ponte era aperta e non ho resistito ad entrare! C’era un presepe fatto con i ferri. Promette bene questo St. Ives! A quei tempi non sapevo ancora se mi avrebbero dato il trasferimento o no, quindi ero molto curiosa di vedere dove FORSE sarei andata a vivere.

The little Chapel on the bridge was opened and I couldn’t resist to enter! There was a knitted nativity scene. It sounds promising this St. Ives! In those days I didn’t know yet if I would have had the transfer, but I was really curios to see the place where MAYBE I would have lived.
Il fiume era davvero pieno, era piovuto davvero tanto nei giorni precedenti…e l’acqua era minacciosa.

The river was really full, it rained a lot in the previous days..and the water was intimidating.
I cigni di St. Ives li conoscete già! Sembrano belli…ma sono tremendi!! Ieri li ho visti rubare il pane di mano ad un bambino disperato e ho visto una mamma costretta a fuggire di corsa per evitare che un cigno entrasse nella carrozzina di sua figlia!

You already know St. Ives’s swans! They seem wonderful…but they’re terrible!! I saw them yesterday stealing the bread from a desperate child’s hands and a mum forced to ran away to avoid a wan to enter in her daughter’s baby carriage!
In giro per St. Ives ci sono questi cartelli dove la gente deve attaccare le proprie gomme da masticare! Non è molto bello da vedere, ma preferisco questo che ritrovarmi una gomma attaccata sotto le scarpe o vedere tutti i marciapiedi marchiati di tondini neri!

In St. Ives you can find these signs where people have to stick their gum! It’s not nice to see, but I prefer it to find a gum under my shoe or the look of lots of black circles on the pavement!
Stavano montando le giostre del Luna Park per la festa della sera…e sembrava di essere indietro nel tempo! C’erano anche banchini a vendere le mele caramellate.

They were assembling the carousels for the evening funfair…and it seemed to go back in the past! There were even stands selling toffee apples.

Ho trovato una casa piena delle pazze decorazioni che alcuni inglesi amano tanto mettere intorno alle proprie case! Questi avevano anche una cassettina per raccogliere offerte che avrebbero devoluto a una associazione di non ricordo quale tipo.

I found a house full of those crazy decorations that some English people love to put around their houses so much! They even had a little box for the offers that they would have transferred to an association, but I don’t remember which kind of.
La sera, alla festa, St. Ives era piena di gente! Veramente bello e suggestivo…e freddissimo!

Al ritorno ho preso il treno, e mi sono fatta un giro veloce a Huntingdon, che è la stazione più vicina a St. Ives.

On my way back I took the train, and I had a quick tour of Huntingdon, that is the nearest station to St. Ives.
A Huntingdon ho trovato delle mucche ostinate che bloccavano il passaggio ai ciclisti…le hanno dovute “spostare con la forza” per poter continuare il percorso!

In Huntingdon I found really stubborn cows that were blocking the way to some cyclists…they had to move them “with their force” to be able to continue their trip!
Adesso è l’ora di tornare a casa. Preparerò un Plumcake allo Yogurt per mangiarlo a colazione. Domani sono di nuovo al lavoro…ma spero prima di riuscire a montare e sistemare il mio armadio! A presto!

As always, its fun to catch up with you through your picture journeys! I hope you got your bed together and are comfortable now that you’re working in Cambridgeshire! I’ve had trouble with animals around townships too – they get used to being fed and are quite vocal/pushy about their right of way. Swans are big birds so a little scary when being chased – ditto for the cows! Have a good week!
