When I went to Viareggio with my parents, we went visiting the “Cittadella del Carnevale” (=Carnival Little Town), that was built in 2001 and I had not seen yet. I remember, when I went to the Primary School, we went with the school to see how they built the famous Papier-mâché floats for the Carnival, and it was really interesting to me. They built this new building this new complex, where one of my ex-teacher of university worked, too.

The building is really interesting, and I liked it a lot. I discovered that in the big square in the middle, there are often organised shows, expecially during the summer period. I imagine it will be really suggestive attending at a show in that space. …my nephew Simone made various performance over there with his Gymnaestrada group!

Siamo stati fortunati, perche’ almeno uno dei laboratori dove realizzano i carri era aperto…e abbiamo potuto sbirciare all’interno.

We were lucky, because just one of the workshops where they built the Papier-mâché floats was opened…and we were able to peep inside. There is a “Museum of the Carnival” too, but it was closed when we went.

Laura,
What a fascinating place this is. And so nice to see a photo of your mom and dad. Silly girl, is that you with your hand up a nose??
Our little town does a harvest parade every October and use paper mache “puppets” which my friend and neighbor, Amy, helps them design. These in your photos are obviously made by professionals, but the impact, fun and excitement is surprisingly the same.
All the sunshine in your photos is amazing. It has done nothing but rain here for days. Thanks for the cheerfulness.
Hi Sharon!!
..I couldn’t resist!! Paper Mache is really funny to work. I did it sometimes in the past. I think I’ll do it again, when I’ll have a bit more space!! …that sunshine was the only one I saw in three weeks!! (it lasted only 3 days..).
Thank you for your kind words!! Yes…it’s me that silly girl with the hand up a nose!!
Ciao!!
